From Rouen to Mont-Saint-Michel today
Rouen to Mont Saint Michel
Most of the French kings up to the sixteenth century would have made the pilgrimage from Rouen to Mont-Saint-Michel and this long route is definitely one for those seeking the tranquility of nature because long stretches are etiher through typical French forests or vast tracts of open countryside. Few pilgrimages can have such a spectacular denouement as the first sighting of Mon-Saint-Michel’s Benedictine Abbey perched on its rugged little offshore island. If you are more pressed for time, there is a shorter option available, starting at Caen and meeting the longer route at Genets for the final trek across salt marshes and sands to the Abbey.
